Behind the scenes: You look like I need a drink!

Recently, I had the delightful opportunity to collaborate with Philip Webb Greg on our latest Crimedy Murder Mystery: "You Look Like I Need a Drink." The concept of a game where all characters embody various alcoholic drinks had been a longstanding desire, and Philip took up the challenge with gusto, working tirelessly with us over several months. Philip is a professional coffee drinker with a writing problem. He takes great joy in the art of making things up and writing them down. His credits include the digital fantasy universe Eternal Knights, the scavenger hunt company Questo, and the mobile game 'Scary Bully'. You can find him at: philipwebbgregg.com. We asked him to share his thoughts on the experience, and his candid feedback about our collaboration follows.

"Engaging in the creation of my inaugural murder mystery game with the ingenious minds at Fat Egg was an exhilarating dance between excitement and challenge. As a seasoned writer, I tend to dive headlong into new projects, occasionally forgetting to come up for air. Yet, amidst this fervor, the spectre of 'idea burn-out' lurks—a creative chasm where inspiration vanishes, leaving one akin to a magician waking up without spells.

There came a moment in this venture when the laughter ceased, and my creative well felt barren. It was a disconcerting sensation, akin to a wizard waking up powerless. Thankfully, salvation arrived in the form of Kate. A meeting infused with laughter reignited the spark, and ideas flowed anew. Ah, the magic of collaborative synergy!

Concerning the game's architecture, my initial task involved infusing the theme and basic narrative with a plethora of jokes and puns. Admittedly, many of these quips skirted the edge of absurdity, some boldly defying printability. However, reveling in the freedom (and compensation) to conjure terrible puns was an indulgence I embraced wholeheartedly, meticulously refining my creations.

Before long, I found myself armed with a robust arsenal of reasonably respectable gags. It was then time to delve deeper into the narrative, crafting intricate characters and a compelling storyline. This phase, grounded in fundamental scriptwriting principles, demanded finesse. Fortunately, having immersed myself in countless detective series, the process felt oddly natural.

In tandem with Kate, after sculpting the overarching storyline, I wove characters and puns into a rich tapestry. The culmination, I daresay, is a comedic, whimsical yet intricately coherent journey into the murky depths of human nature. The objective? To unearth the elusive culprit concealed amidst the laughter and absurdity."
